Psilocybin: The Magic in Mushrooms
Layout Design
This infographic uses bold colors and rich typography to educate the viewer on the myths and magic of the highly-taboo chemical psilocybin.

Organizing Research
The first step of any infographic is extensive research. While I gathered my information, I explored different layout options and how to apply the information to an infographic. These crowded sketches gave direction throughout the design process as they provided the entirety of my research. It was in this stage that I had the idea to include a central graphic.

Bringing the Central Idea to Life
Once I had a direction for my infographic, the first step was creating the centerpiece that started it all. This Photoshop composition captures the eyes with bold colors and an unusual sight, with mushrooms emerging from a human brain. This large focal point serves to draw people in and direct eyes through information.

Choosing a Typeface
When selecting a typeface for this poster, I wanted to lean into "weird" without necessarily using something stereotypically associated with "trippy." Chopper offers the whimsy I was going for.

Beginning to Take Shape
Starting with the graphic in the center of the page, I arranged my research using Adobe Illustrator. The layout remained crowded, but with all of the information present, it was time to refine.

Increasing the Visual Appeal
The lack of color outside of the central graphic had a negative effect on the overall appearance. Pulling a color scheme directly from the central graphic, I used color to organize facts, increasing the cohesion between image and type. The layout is still too crowded - the central graphic seems to separate the text too much, instead of creating a visual hierarchy as intended.

Attractive Education
A vertical layout served this amount of text best. The final poster condensed information further, using bold typography and exciting colors to guide viewers through the infographic, educating viewers on the chemical and effectively communicating its potential for good.
